How Good Is It? Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

Ubisoft's shooting for the stars in this sequel.

Ubisoft’s Mario + Rabbids series returns to Nintendo Switch with Sparks of Hope, taking Mario and his friends on a space-faring adventure. The first entry in the Mario + Rabbids franchise was a surprise success, but does its successor have what it takes to live up to that legacy?

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of hope is a smash hit with critics earning a Mighty rating on Open Critic with a Top Critic average of 86. A staggering 96% of critics recommend this title to Nintendo Switch fans. User scores are similarly positive, with an 8.0/10 average on Metacritic.

Critics of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope praise the title for continuing this wacky mascot crossover and improving on what the base game offered. Sparks of Hope contains more cohesive and complex strategy combat with an expanded cast of characters to control. New mechanics integrate seamlessly with the game, with Ubisoft creating a more inspired and comedic story to complement the adventure.

Despite skepticism surrounding the Mario + Rabbids crossover, Ubisoft continues to create unique and impressive experiences that strategy game lovers can appreciate. Like Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Sparks of Hope has DLC in the works. The guest star of the upcoming expansion is the Ubisoft icon Rayman. After almost a decade of silence, fans of this limbless legend are getting new content. With enough sales, Ubisoft may see a reason to make a new Rayman title (here’s hoping.)

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope is available for $59.99 on Nintendo Switch. To get a look at the Mario + Rabbids story mode, see the trailer from Nintendo of America below:
