Sony’s most anticipated title of 2023 is finally here! Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is out now for PlayStation 5. It’s been nearly three years since Spider-Man: Miles Morales launched alongside the system and over five since the original title debuted on PlayStation 4.
After half a decade of experience in the Spider-Man universe, did Insomniac Games find a way to outdo themselves with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2? Just How Good Is It? Good news for fans of the web-shooting hero: Marvel’s Spider-Man is one of the best-rated titles of 2023 and a Game of the Year contender as of its release.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a resounding success, with a Mighty rating on OpenCritic, a 91 Top Critic Average, and 100% of critics recommending the title. Spider-Man 2 is among the top ten highest-rated games on OpenCritic in 2023, with almost all parties lauding it as a must-buy PS5 title.
The last title in the franchise, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, launched in 2020 with a Mighty rating, though the Top Critic Average and recommend rate were slightly lower. Since Miles Morales was a smaller tie-in game filling the gaps between Spider-Man 1 and 2, that did not come as much of a surprise.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2018, on the other hand, was the best-rated Insomniac Games title on OpenCritic for five years, only matched by the studio’s 2021 release, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. That changed once the embargo lifted on Spider-Man 2. The latest entry in the series finally dethroned the PS4 title for the best-rated game in studio history.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a triumph for Insomniac Games. Almost every reviewer on OpenCritic has dubbed it the best entry in the series thus far. The PS5 exclusive is one of, if not the best, superhero title ever released. The lowest listed score is an 8/10, with most verdicts landing in the nine to ten range.
