Octopath Traveler 2 is the long-awaited sequel to the popular turn-based strategy game from Square Enix. The original title launched to critical acclaim in 2019 as a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Octopath Traveler 2 continues the trend of solid strategy games for 2023, earning a Mighty rating on OpenCritic. With a Top Critic Average of 86 and 93% of critics recommending the title, it’s a resounding success from Square Enix.
The original Octopath Traveler, as beloved as it is, didn’t see scores as high as its successor. The first title earned a Top Critic Average of 84, with 86% of critics recommending it. The highlights were engaging combat, great class choice, and plenty of exploration.

This title has more to explore, better combat mechanics, and an improved narrative structure. Octopath Traveler 2 may not take too many risks and feel familiar to most, but why fix what isn’t broken?
