2023 is a huge year for Nintendo, no matter what games you like. If you’re a fan of sprouting little living helpers, you’re probably a huge fan of the Pikmin series. With Pikmin 4 finally upon us, coming over a decade after the last entry, does the franchise hold up? How Good Is It? Thankfully, the game is pretty damn awesome.

Pikmin 4 faired very well on OpenCritic, earning a Might rating. After scoring an 88 Top Critic Average, with 100% of Critics recommending the title for purchase, it’s hard to argue this isn’t a strong entry for the franchise. Pikmin 4 joins the 2023 Hall of Fame for OpenCritic, sitting beside titles like Diablo IV and Final Fantasy XVI, which have the same average rating.

For a direct comparison, Pikmin 3 Deluxe had an 85 Top Critic Average, with 99% of critics recommending the title. It might not be a monumental change in rating, but with a series like Pikmin, it’s great to see consistency.

Standout Pikmin 4 Reviews

Critics praise Pikmin 4 for its improvement of the traditional gameplay of the franchise. The tried and true formula from the franchise here has been built upon and expanded in a way that makes Pikmin feel better than it ever has before. Many claim it’s the best entry in the franchise yet, taking all the lessons from previous entries and making them more cohesive.

Though some don’t enjoy the tense time-management mechanics or tense underground gameplay, there’s plenty to love here for series veterans and fresh faces alike. So long as you’re willing to put in the time to learn the mechanics, you’ll have an incredible time with this adorable Nintendo title.
