Wonder, the first new 2D Mario game in over a decade, is out now for the Nintendo Switch. But How Good Is It? Super Mario Bros. Wonder earned a Mighty rating on OpenCritic with a Top Critic Average of 92, with 98% of critics recommending the title. This score puts Super Mario Bros. Wonder in the top five highest-rated games in 2023.
To compare Wonder with its predecessor, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, it’s a clear step up. Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe saw a Strong OpenCritic score with a 79 Top Critic Average. 80% of critics suggested it for purchase as well. The big drawback with this title was the formulaic nature of the New Super Mario Bros. franchise that grew repetitive over time.
Standout Super Mario Bros. Wonder Reviews
Super Mario Bros. Wonder won critics over as an entry that propels the Super Mario Bros. franchise forward. The inventive Wonder mechanics that add new ideas to almost every level, new power-ups, and charming visual style make this one of Switch’s most eye-catching and exciting Mario titles. This is a monumental step forward for Super Mario’s 2D library and one of the most beloved platformers on the system.
