Super Mario Bros. Wonder earned a Mighty rating on OpenCritic with a Top Critic Average of 92, with 98% of critics recommending the title. This score puts Super Mario Bros. Wonder in the top five highest-rated games in 2023.

To compare Wonder with its predecessor, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, it’s a clear step up. Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe saw a Strong OpenCritic score with a 79 Top Critic Average. 80% of critics suggested it for purchase as well. The big drawback with this title was the formulaic nature of the New Super Mario Bros. franchise that grew repetitive over time.
