This year, I was media at MCM Comic Com combined with EGX, as well as an exhibitor in the EGX exhibition hall at the Niantic x Safe In Our World booth. It was my first MCM Comic Con, my first EGX, my first time in London, and my third time in Europe. And I had an absolute blast, but there was definitely a learning curve for newcomers to the venue. Though not one I couldn’t get over by Sunday. Thanks to my experience, I feel plenty prepared for next year’s show.
This feature will take you into my weekend, as well as link to my live panel coverage I did at the convention itself.
I’ve been working and reworking this piece for some time, because I really want to capture the experience of going to this convention as someone who doesn’t live in the UK. As an American, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I certainly learned a lot, like how cranberry juice is far less common in the UK than the US. In terms of the convention scene, there were some differences that surprised me too.
For example, I didn’t realize how much cosplay there was going to be! I’m a cosplayer, and if I had known, I would’ve brought my Gale cosplay (Baldur’s Gate 3). Definitely planning to cosplay next year.
Exhibiting at MCM Comic Con x EGX
Niantic and Safe In Our World teamed up to exhibit at EGX to promote how video games, especially AR games, like Niantic’s own Pokémon GO and Monster Hunter Now, could bring people together to form good memories or lasting friendships.
We ran the booth where were giving out codes for free items in Niantic’s titles, as well as getting player’s Pokémon GO and similar game stories while a commissioned artist drew them.
Journalism at MCM Comic Con x EGX
Covering the panels live and sharing that content online was such a joy. Being able to bring my media coverage to the masses live at the convention was new for me. I usually do coverage like this afterwards, but it was highly requested, and I loved doing it. It was very well received, and I would definitely do it again.

Final Thoughts on MCM Comic Con x EGX
Overall, I really enjoyed the convention. There was a bit of a culture clash between the comic con and gaming con sides of it, but not in a bad way, as I have experience with both.
My only wishes were for the map to have included every location, like “The Green” for new folks who may not know where that is, and a better way to get between West and East entrances after hours. But overall, I had a blast. I definitely plan to attend again in 2025!
