Fire Emblem Engage continues the long-running Fire Emblem franchise on the Nintendo Switch. After over 30 years, it can be intimidating even to consider approaching the strategy RPG series. The question for new players is: can you pick up Engage without prior knowledge?
While Fire Emblem Engage makes callbacks to previous entries in the franchise, it’s beginner-friendly! Fire Emblem games, much like the Final Fantasy franchise, offer new stories and characters with new releases. Though some characters and storylines persist even decades after the series’ inception, that’s nothing you need to worry about here. This is a fresh story with new characters, as Fire Emblem: Three Houses was.
If combat is a concern for you, don’t worry! So long as you’re willing to adapt, upgrade your allies, and strategize, you can overcome just about anything. Learn how each of your allies fights and what they excel in. With over 30 characters to recruit, you’ll have plenty of options when building your army. Take it from someone who joined the franchise with Fire Emblem Three Houses. I was so afraid of the strategy portion of Fire Emblem, but the franchise does a great job of helping rookies acclimate. If I made it through, you can too!
