Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Best Natures for Dondozo

Another titan for your collection.

With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launching for Nintendo Switch, there are over 100 new creatures to catch and train. In the Paldea region, some of these new Pokemon tower over the others, including the amphibious Dondozo. If you want to make this behemoth your on-field ally, you might need to know the best natures to pair with it. Here are the natures that make this behemoth a battering ram.

Best Natures for Dondozo

Thanks to a varied stat pool, Dondozo works well with multiple builds. Depending on what you want to do with this Water-type Pokemon, you’ll need to choose one of two options.

Balanced Build

NatureEffects
Adamant+Attack/-Special Attack
Jolly+Speed/-Special Attack

Dondozo’s best stat is its Defense, with Attack coming in as a close second. The Adamant and Jolly natures are excellent options to create a balanced version of the Big Catfish Pokemon. Adamant improves the Attack stat while lowering Special Attack. Because the Special Attack stat is far weaker than Attack, this change won’t matter much. We chose this option during our playthrough, but Jolly can also be helpful. Dondozo is very slow, so any boost you can give the Speed stat can help it. This nature lowers the Special Attack stat as well.

Defensive Build

NatureEffects
Impish+Defense/-Special Attack

The Impish nature is the strongest option to lean into its Defense strengths. Though this nature doesn’t boost Attack, you won’t miss it when you can take any hit an enemy throws your way.

Worst Natures for Dondozo

While some natures work well for Dondozo, others can stilt its performance. Take care to avoid the natures listed below, and if you find yourself with an ally sporting the ones below, you can swap them out. Use a mint to change your partner’s nature. You can find this consumable item at the Chansey Supply shop in Montenevera for $20,000.

Balanced Build

NatureEffects
Modest+Special Attack/-Attack
Quiet+Special Attack/-Speed

Because Dondozo can’t use Special Attacks effectively, natures that focus on that are the worst option. For a balanced build, Modest and Quiet are terrible. The Attack and Speed stats need all the points possible, and this tradeoff offers no positives.

Defense Build

NatureEffects
Mild+Special Attack/-Defense
Rash+Special Attack/-Special Defense

Those making a Defense build should avoid any nature that lowers the Defense and Special Defense stats. Mild and Rash are the poor options since they take away from these crucial stats. Giving a boost to Special Attack, Mild and Rash offer no boons for Dondozo. Once you find the choice that fits your build, you’re ready to train!
