General Sujimon Tips
You’ll never have to worry about missing a major part of Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. This does a better job of steering you into side activities like Sujimon battles, so if you haven’t unlocked something yet, try advancing the main story. If you feel stuck at a certain level once you do unlock more features, get into more Sujimon battles to raise your Trainer Rank. Otherwise, catch and raise Sujimon at your own pace—there’s absolutely no reason to rush.
Other parts of Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth can help with acquiring and leveling Sujimon, so be careful not to get too much tunnel vision. It’s helpful to mix and match your play style to see how different minigames interact.
That’s as much vague advice as I can muster, folks. Still a little stumped? More detailed tips below this image, but be warned: mild mechanics and story spoilers ahead. Last chance to turn back!
I don’t really enjoy the Sujimon thing. What’s the bare minimum I can do for the useful gameplay stuff?
If you’re really not feeling it, here’s the bare minimum of what to play to get a special job class for Ichiban:
- Get a full team of six different Sujimon. You can catch them by offering Suji gifts after fights, or just use gacha tickets at the gumball-machine shaped Sujimon draw machines. You will most likely need a full team to get through the first Discreet Four side story.
- Use Sujimunch to level them up to 10. You can strengthen your Sujimon through the menu at any Suji Spot.
- Reach trainer rank 10 by battling Rookie trainers marked on your map. This should unlock the side story for Jack, the first member of the Discreet Four.
- Head to the location marked on your map. Challenge Jack’s two subordinates and win. Save before fighting Jack, if you haven’t already.
- Win against Jack afterwards, and you’ll unlock the Sujimancer class for Ichiban. Out of the box, this is a great way to do elemental attacks of different types.
When can I add Sujimon from normal battles to my Sujidex?
You bump into the Sujimon Sensei in Yokohama after the start of Chapter 2. Don’t worry, he’s part of the main story so you can’t miss him. You’ll know you’re close when Ichiban puts on a blue backpack. He’ll tell you how to log the Sujimon you encounter in your Sujidex.
When can I catch Sujimon of my own?
Sujimon Sensei appears again near the start of Chapter 4, in the Anaconda Shopping Center. Meet him at the designated spot (it’s once again main story, you can’t miss it) and he’ll walk you through the basics of the Sujimon League.
After this point, you’ll be prompted to pick a starter. Make sure you add it to your main party from the Sujimon League app on Ichiban’s smartphone. Once you get through the starter tutorial, Sujimon Sensei will essentially cut you loose.
You can also lure Sujimon to your party with gifts through a minigame. If you see a Sujimon hanging around after battle, try talking to them and providing a Suji gift. The closer the camera is to their face, the more likely it is they’ll join you. This isn’t foolproof! Give a crummy gift, and they can still walk away.
How do I raise my Trainer Rank?
Other trainers you can battle will have the Suji League symbol and are marked on your map. You can check the full list of the Raids and Rivals menu under Sujimon League. Stick to the battles close to your Trainer tier. Your trainer rank is a number in the Sujimon menu, but tier classifications go from Rookie to Platinum (at least at my point in the game), in ascending order:
- Rookie
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
- Platinum
If you’re a Rookie, fight other Rookies. Bronze? Fight other Bronze ranks. It might be tempting to push yourself, but seeking higher rank fighters will just get you rinsed. Trust me, I tried.
I’m spending way too much on Sujimon supplies. What should I be doing instead?
As always, make sure you’ve cleared your rank’s trainer battles at least once each. Fighting trainers and the Discreet Four nets you money and supplies.
Checking in at a Sujimon Spot will reward you a free item, so activate them when you’re nearby. Item drops happen even if you’ve visited before. Some have a green glow and look like a yellow parking meter, and others are a glowing laptop with the Sujimon logo.
Sujimon raids—elemental symbols on the map—are another great way to get items. Defeating the raid bosses in battle guarantees a nice reward. Look for the eerie glowing circles in parking lots and alleyways. Even if you’re not on an active spot, using a Warrior’s Musk when prompted will summon Sujimon to fight.
I keep getting my ass kicked in Sujimon battles. What gives?
- If you’ve hit your level cap, check that you’ve fought all current rank trainers so you can challenge the next member of the Discreet Four. You can’t advance Trainer or Sujimon levels past the current cap without getting Discreet Four badges, so there’s no point in grinding once your party maxes out.
- Check if you can awaken your Sujimon at a nearby Suji Spot by, uh, providing them with a Sujimon of the same type (or substitute a committee member.) If you’ve already beaten a member of the Discreet Four, talk to the black and white committee member close by; they’ll give you spare committee member units to use for awakening. For lower level enemies, it’s worth getting in non-Sujimon fights to pick up some spares the old-fashioned way.
- Most Sujimon can be evolved after they’ve awakened enough times, unless they’re the last step in their evolutionary line. As of my playtime, most Sujimon have two or three evolutions. These modify your special and normal moves and boost base stats.
- Speaking of stats, try to build a party with a healthier speed stat (the number by the foot icon in the Sujimon League screen) if you’re still getting rinsed. You might need to hunt around raid spots and redeem your gacha tickets to find alternate Sujimon. Don’t discount normal battles, either!
- Play other parts of the game! Sometimes it unlocks mechanics that help build up friendship and Sujimon stats in other ways.
