It’s official: Spider-Man 2 isn’t co-op

Looks like we're riding solo this time.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 lets players take control of Peter Parker and Miles Morales. With two different playable characters, fans hoped for a multiplayer mode. Those hopes died on May 22, 2023, when Insomniac Games said otherwise.

After Insomniac shared MaraKnightVP‘s photo mode pictures from Spider-Man: Miles Morales, one fan, SeanLia4, asked if a cooperative mode would appear in the upcoming PS5 exclusive. Insomniac Games rejected the idea, describing Spider-Man 2 as an ‘epic single-player adventure.’

Several fans prodded further to no avail, but with just a few days until the 2023 PlayStation Showcase, Insomniac will likely have more to share on the sequel during Sony’s highly anticipated livestream. With Peter, Miles, Venom, and Kraven all taking center stage, it’s looking to be an ambitious title, even by Insomniac standards.

Players can look forward to controlling Peter Parker and Miles Morales during the story of Spider-Man 2. Beyond that, there’s little we’re sure of. What we do know is that this title takes place sometime after the events of Spider-Man 2018 and Spider-Man Miles Morales.

What’s more, one of the voice actors, Tony Todd, did suggest that Spider-Man 2 is releasing in Fall 2023. Despite these comments, Sony declined to confirm or deny the release window.
