Nintendo Switch 2 is a bigger, sleeker console, with new joy-con designs and most importantly, more power. While Nintendo didn’t show much in the console reveal, there were three huge confirmations.
1. Nintendo Switch 2 is Backwards Compatible

The first is the reveal that the Nintendo Switch 2 can play both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch games. While Nintendo confirmed this publicly months ago, it’s nice to see them stick to that promise.
2. A New Mario Kart is Coming to Switch 2

Outside of a look at the new console, dock, joy-cons, and grip, Nintendo showed what appears to be a new game: a new Mario Kart. The giveaway is the new look, karts, and map unfamiliar to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
3. Switch 2 Direct Debuts on April 2, 2025

More information for the Nintendo Switch 2 comes alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2, 2025. While we don’t have much to go on yet, it can be assumed that the release window, games, and pre-order options will appear during the showcase.
