Unfortunately, the Home World Transfer Service for FFXIV saw a suspension this week. Despite Square Enix’s best efforts, problems arose from Patch 6.18. Because of the growing number of players in FFXIV, Square Enix decided to delay the integral feature.
Thanks to the HotFixes on Wednesday, July 13, Square Enix found that weekend numbers would overwhelm Home World Transfers and the new Data Center Travel service. These two services use the same system, meaning they share server loads.

Because the team wants to mitigate problems during high-stress periods, they have a few more tests to run. These tests aim to confirm both the Home World Transfer Service and Data Center Travel remain unimpacted during the latter’s launch. The Square Enix team confirmed a delay for the Data Center Travel Service launch on the FFXIV Lodestone on July 14.
The Data Center Travel Service will instead launch next week on FFXIV, though no date has been confirmed. Square Enix promised to update the site soon with a revised launch date. This anticipated new service allows players to travel to other Data Centers. Users can visit other Data Centers and spend time with friends when Data Center Travel Launches.

Square Enix also took to Twitter to tell users on social media of the delay.
While the news is disheartening, it does show Square’s commitment to releasing the service in its best state for FFXIV. Ultimately, this delay will serve players and the game better in the long run.
