Kirby Air Riders has a lot of new and returning content: from maps, to game modes, to characters, and machines. But there was one thing that surprised me that a lot of folks missed in the second direct: new maps for the iconic Target Flight. So what is Target Flight?
Original Target Flight in Kirby Air Ride

Target Flight was a glide-based stadium in the original Kirby Air Ride where players drove down a runway and off a ramp and hit numbers on a scoreboard with squares. Squares ranged from 0 points—marked with an X—up to 100 points. The 100 point square is hidden behind a shutter, and if you land on the shutter, you get nothing. Additionally, squares act on a “first come, first serve basis.” Meaning, whoever lands on it first get the points and whoever lands on it after get nothing.
This was a polarizing mode: Some players enjoyed it, while others felt it was a waste. Many players were discussing their desire to turn Target Flight off in the new game. But with the new maps… some may change their minds.

New Target Flight in Kirby Air Riders

While the original map is back, Kirby Air Riders also introduces two new maps: a bigger 5×5 with two 100 squares. And most importantly: a brand-new moving map that looks like a spinning dart board.
I personally liked the original Target Flight… to an extent. I thought it was fun in stadium, but if I had a really powerful or fast machine in City Trial, I’d feel punished that I got Target Flight sometimes. But with this new map, and combined with the fact that you can choose between four for the final game, I think I am going to really like Target Flight a lot more in Kirby Air Riders than I did in Kirby Air Ride. And I say this as someone who was more favorable to the original.
I also discussed the new map with folks on the Kirby Air Riders subreddit, all who seems favorable to the new spinning map.
The new map just looks like a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to try it out. Kirby Air Riders demo begins November 8, and the full game is out November 20.
