New players can play FFXIV free of charge until level 70 and the end of the Stormblood expansion, with no playtime restriction. That means over a hundred hours of story content from the base game and its first two expansions, all at your own pace. The free trial has the following content:

  • A Realm Reborn
  • Heavensward
  • Stormblood

This free trial includes all optional content from these first three segments of the game, including raids, dungeons, and trials.

Keep in mind the FFXIV free trial is only available for accounts that have never played or paid for the game. Once you pay for the game, the option for a free trial is gone. Don’t pay until you absolutely have to, especially since this MMO has a 14.99 monthly fee for non-free trial players.

Once you hit the end of Stormblood, you’ll have to pay for the other expansions to enjoy that content. The following expansions are exclusive to the paid version of the game:

  • Shadowbringers
  • Endwalker
  • Dawntrail (Releases Summer 2024)

Once you finish the FFXIV free trial, you can purchase the Final Fantasy XIV Complete Edition to get all additional expansions.
